Standard Beach Marriage Ceremony
Note:   This Marriage Ceremony can also adapted for a Wedding on a Boat

Welcome Message (OPTIONAL)
Family and Friends, on behalf of GROOM and BRIDE I would like to welcome you all here today on this beautiful beach and I call upon you to be fellow witnesses with me in their marriage.

We stand together, beside the Ocean and before God and the Angels, not only to witness their commitment to each other but also to wish them well and every happiness in their life voyage together.

GROOM and BRIDE believe that marriage is founded on the sort of sincerity and understanding that leads to tolerance, confidence and trust.   They also believe that those qualities that have attracted them to each other can best be developed during a life spent together.

So we celebrate with them the love they have discovered in each other, and we support their decision to commit themselves to one another for the rest of their lives.

A happy marriage will enable them to establish a home where there will be love and stability, where you, their family and their friends, will find welcome, peace and support, and which will be a base from which the influence of their life can extend.

Giving Away the Bride (OPTIONAL)
Who brings BRIDE to this beach to stand beside GROOM as his wife?
Person giving away says “I Do”, kisses the bride, shakes the grooms hand, places Bride’s hand into Groom’s hand and then he returns to the other guests.

Monitum (COMPULSORY)
My name is Tim Addison and I am authorised by law to solemnise marriages according to law.    GROOM and BRIDE, before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.   Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.

Beach Wedding Poem by the Marriage Celebrant, a Relative or a Friend (OPTIONAL)
Standing beside this oceans tide,
May your love always be constant & unchanging,
Like these never-ending waves pouring beneath our feet,
Flowing endlessly from the depths of the sea;
Love came softly upon your hearts,
Just like foam comes softly upon sand,
And just as there will never be a morning without this ocean's flow,
So there will never be a day without your love for one other,
As today you pledge yourselves together forever.
This love will be unchanging - dependable like the tides;
Waters nourish the earth and sustain life,
So to may your constant devotion nourish and sustain one other
Until the end of time.

The Asking (OPTIONAL)
GROOM do you take BRIDE to be your lawfully wedded wife.
By this Oceans tide do you promise that you will love her, comfort her, honour and keep her, in sickness and in health and forsaking all others keep only unto her, so long as you both shall live?
GROOM Replies – “I DO”

BRIDE will you take GROOM to be your lawfully wedded husband.
And by this Oceans tide do you promise that you will love him, comfort him, honour and keep him, in sickness and in health and forsaking all others keep only unto him, so long as you both shall live?
BRIDE Replies – “I DO”

CHEROKEE PRAYER -Done as a reading not a prayer (OPTIONAL)
"God in heaven above please protect the ones we love.
We honour all that you created – as we pledge our hearts and lives together.
We honour mother earth and ask that this marriage be abundant, growing stronger from season to season;
We honour fire and ask that this union be warm and glowing with love in their hearts;
We honour wind and ask that they sail though life safe and calm as if in their father's arms;
We honour water to clean and soothe their relationship - that it may never thirst for love;
With all your creations and universal forces, we pray for harmony and true happiness as they forever grow young together.

The Marriage Vows (COMPULSORY and OPTIONAL)
GROOM, Please repeat after me.
I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, GROOM, take thee, BRIDE, to be my lawful wedded Wife
To have and to hold,
from this day forward,
for better or for worse,
for richer or for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
while we both shall live.

And, BRIDE, will you now also please repeat after me.
I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, BRIDE, take thee, GROOM, to be my lawful wedded Husband
To have and to hold,
from this day forward,
for better or for worse,
for richer or for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
while we both shall live.

Exchange of Wedding Rings (OPTIONAL)
Let these rings, which you are about to exchange, serve to remind us that a circle is a symbol of the sun, the earth and the universe.   Like the sea, a circle has no beginning - no ending. It symbolises wholeness, peace and completeness.     These rings are very special because they remind us that we are individuals yet we are not alone.   Wear them, telling each other & the whole world of your love for each other.

GROOM, place this ring on Bride’s finger & while holding her hand repeat after me.
By the Ocean’s tide I give you this ring,
as a symbol of how happy you make me feel,
and as a sign to all that you are the special one
that I wish to share life's journey with.
May you feel surrounded by my love
each time you look at this ring
.

BRIDE, place this ring on Groom’s finger and while holding his hand repeat after me.
I could write your name in the sand
but waves would wash it away.
I could write it in the sky,
but wind would blow it away.
So I wrote it in my heart;
and there it will stay forever!
With this ring, I give you my heart,
for I have no greater gift to give.

May these wedding rings be a reminder to GROOM and BRIDE of the vows
they have shared today and a witness to all the world of their commitment in marriage.

Second Reading by the Marriage Celebrant, a Relative or a Friend
or, you may want to have a ROSE or SAND Ceremony Inserted Here
. (OPTIONAL)
May your mornings bring joy and your evenings bring peace.
May your troubles grow few as your blessings increase
May the saddest day of your future
Be no worse than the happiest day of your past.
May your hands be forever held in friendship
And your hearts joined forever in love.

Blessing the Marriage (OPTIONAL)
Live your lives with passion, compassion and excitement.    Play, dance and share in life's long journey.   Make footprints in the sand and sail in the gentleness of the winds.   Climb mountains together, laugh together, cry together and smile often.   Make life magical and extraordinary.   Be happy, be silly; rejoice in life's beauty from now on and into all of your tomorrows for you will be partners in love for life, remembering while sailing on the great ocean of marriage to always be one other's best friend.

Declaration of Marriage (OPTIONAL)
On this beach, surrounded by love, the sun and the Ocean Waves and before God and the Angels, and before Family and Friends, we have witnessed the vows that you have just made to each other, so, by Gods loving grace, and by the authority vested in me, upheld by laws of Australia, I now pronounce you to be co-captains in life, best friends forever, and most important of all ~ Husband and Wife.
